At the county level, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for maintaining inmate records. They have an online database available for the public to view.

The Tennessee Department of Correction supervises all state prisons and correctional facilities and offers a search tool that contains records of every offender who was accused of committing a crime.

Lastly, individuals who were incarcerated due to a federal offense are placed within one of the facilities managed by the federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), and their records are maintained and made available to the public for free through their online database.

Suppose the mugshots of offenders are unavailable via the search tools provided by the agencies mentioned above; in such cases, requests can be made by completing an online request form, writing a request and sending it through the mail, contacting the agency by phone, or requesting the information in person.

The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) supervises federal prison facilities and maintains a free online inmate locator containing records of federal offenders who are currently in custody or were released starting from 1982 and continuing to present.8

The searcher may provide either the name or BOP register number of the offender, and the result will show the inmate’s mugshot (if available), full name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, location, and links to services available to assist offenders.

For other inquiries, interested individuals may contact the BOP at:
